IP Ownership#

Intellectual Property & Content Ownership in HELIX#

HELIX is built around creativit, but with that freedom comes responsibility. Every creator is expected to respect the rights of others and only upload or share content they have a legal right to use.

Your Rights as a Creator#

When you create something original in HELIX — a map, model, texture, script, or sound — you own it. Your work remains your intellectual property, and you grant HELIX a limited license to host, distribute, and display it so others can experience it.

You can keep it private, share it freely, or sell it through the HELIX Vault. Ownership always stays with you, as long as it's your original creation in the first place.

Respecting Others’ Work#

You may only upload or distribute content that:

  • You created entirely yourself, or
  • You have the legal right or license to use, modify, and distribute.

If you didn’t make it, don’t upload it — unless the license specifically allows redistribution or use on third-party platforms like HELIX.

This includes models, textures, audio, code, characters, brand names, or any other copyrighted material. Using someone else’s work without permission can result in takedowns, account suspension, or legal consequences.

Using Assets from Marketplaces (like Fab, Unreal Marketplace, etc.)#

You can use assets purchased from third-party marketplaces in your own worlds and creations — that’s part of what makes HELIX powerful.

However, you cannot upload, repackage, or redistribute those assets to other users unless the original license explicitly allows it.

For example:

  • You can buy a tree pack from Fab and use it in your own HELIX world or as a private package.
  • You cannot upload that same tree pack as part of a public package for others to download.

When in doubt, check the original marketplace license. Most assets are licensed for use in your projects, not for redistribution.

Licensed and Branded Content#

If you’re using real-world brands, franchises, or likenesses (such as car companies, movies, or music), you must have explicit permission or a valid license to do so.

Unauthorized use of trademarks or copyrighted designs can lead to removal of the content and possible DMCA action from the original author.

Sharing and Selling Content#

When you publish or sell content on HELIX Vault, you’re confirming that:

  1. You are the rightful owner of the content, or
  2. You hold a valid license that allows you to distribute it within HELIX.

HELIX cannot host or sell unlicensed content. This protects both you and the wider community from copyright disputes.

Protecting Your Work#

HELIX uses internal systems to help identify and protect creators’ original works. If you believe your content has been used without permission, we take that seriously.

Reporting IP Violations or Infringement#

If you see content in HELIX that you believe violates someone’s intellectual property — including your own — you should report it.

There are two ways to do so:

  1. In-Platform Reporting – Use the “Report” option next to the content listing or in-world asset. Choose Copyright or IP Violation as the reason and include as much detail as possible (what the item is, where you found it, and what it copies).
  2. Formal DMCA Takedown Request – If you are the rights holder or authorized agent, you can file a formal DMCA notice through our DMCA Takedown Form. This process ensures your claim is reviewed properly under applicable law.

HELIX reviews all reports promptly and may temporarily restrict access to the content during investigation. If it’s confirmed to be infringing, it will be removed. Repeated or intentional violations may result in account suspension or permanent removal from the platform.

  • Only upload what you own or have rights to use.
  • Marketplace assets are for your own creations, not redistribution.
  • Respect the work of others.
  • You keep ownership of what you create.
  • Report violations responsibly — we protect creators.

HELIX thrives when creators respect creators. Build freely, but build responsibly.
