Collectibles

Scarce, serialized universal items that trade peer-to-peer for LIX. How they differ from ordinary items, and how worlds use them.

A collectible is a special kind of : it exists in a fixed supply and each copy a player owns is serialized (numbered #1…#N). Copies are first issued through a creator's distribution until the supply runs out, then trade peer-to-peer between players for . Nothing mints a copy beyond the supply.

How a world can sell one

A world can't register a collectible as a world product. It can do two things:

  • Primary drop. Sell or give away copies through a distribution (Helix.marketplace.purchaseDistributionKey(key) or purchaseDistribution(id)). Each settled purchase issues one serialized copy; once the supply is exhausted the drop is no longer offered.
  • Resale. Feature one exact secondary listing with Helix.marketplace.purchaseListing(listingId). A listing is one serial, so the quantity is always 1, and only active fixed-price listings (or offer listings that allow instant buy) can be bought this way.

Template vs instance

A collectible has two layers — the template (the design + its supply) and the instances (the individual numbered copies players own).

How worlds use collectibles

Because a collectible (when isUniversal) is a universal item, everything on the inventory API works:

// Gate content on owning a collectible — same call as any item.
if (await Helix.inventory.hasItem('founders_badge_001')) showFoundersLounge();

To let a player acquire one, buy from a primary drop or feature a resale listing:

// primary drop registered for this world
const drop = await Helix.marketplace.purchaseDistributionKey('founders-badge');

// or a resale: browse, then buy one exact listing
const [listing] = await Helix.marketplace.getListings({ category: 'collectible', limit: 10 });
if (listing?.listingId) {
  const result = await Helix.marketplace.purchaseListing(listing.listingId);
  // result.serialNumbers, result.resaleEligibleAt
}

A resale pays the seller minus the platform fee and the creator's royalty; see Fees & payouts.

Collectible vs ordinary item vs world product

The rule of thumb

A standard item sold at a creator's price → a distribution. A world-defined pass, currency or consumable → world product. Scarce + serialized + resold between players → collectible, issued through a distribution and resold through listings.
